the ambush part 1
It's actually been a while since i posted any writing of substance online. I guess I can blame it on my sense of self-criticism in that anything I have written since high school has inevitably ended up forgotten and formatted off my hard drive. But recently I've been feeling a lot more expressive...(beware, bad writing up ahead) it might be the weather here.
so in Singapore I have been doing surprisingly few things as a tourist, I mean, helping out on Asia's largest Christian music festival is not really on your usual lonely planets guide. However, despite being ambushed, out of time and in an unfamiliar country (with some crazy) bits, the whole experience was awesome and I really got to praise God for His sovereignty.
It actually all started out with an innocent attendance to the same midweek cell group as I particiapated in a year and a half ago. At that time I was just a visitor and frankly didn't really feel like I fitted in (partly due to my laziness of course). However, this time around I made an effort to learn people's names and open up. I figured being a quiet loner will not work for a whole year. And for my troubles I got ambushed....
haha actually the situation was something as follows..
Marcus: So as I was saying last week ah, Sonic Fest is coming up this Saturday and we are still missing people to help out with deco la......can anyone help out this Friday (Sonic Fest T-1) and Saturday (Sonic Fest 2004)?
A few hands up including mine. I was thinking: oh so they found the deco IC?
Glenn (my cousin-in-law): Err actually Shawn you're already......involved......
Me: oh? ok......... how....?
Glenn: actually.......you're the deco IC.....
ME: What the...? (slighly played downed, what I actually said was kinda worse) Background: People cheering and clapping
Then Glenn's face pulled up in one of those grins that just somehow reminded me of a cat with a cornered mouse.
Glenn: Hey you know ah, this is my cousin leh? He majors in architecture ah
More clapping, with some cat calls this time.
I looked over to Suelynn (my cousin) for some support looking really lost now. Then she puts one hand up in the universal gesture of "err can you take over?"
Ah crap..........
